Thursday June 23rd
June 21st - Mimi's Birthday!
Had a great birthday today.
Was woken suspiciously by Tom and Faye at 8am pretending to be in a panic. They claimed to have turned on the cooker and couldn't turn it off ; )
Once I walked into the kitchen, the singing started and there were far too many candles to blow out at that time of the morning!
After a yummy breakfast and a cup of Barry's tea, we headed off with the girls to Epcot at Disney. Great way to spend your birthday, no matter what your age. We stayed for the fireworks which were really incredible and fell into bed at midnight. It was the Aunties 1st visit to see Mickey Mouse and they loved it...despite it interfering with their shopping schedule!

Shopping - Days 1, 2 & 4....
Day 5 is missing as they were en route to airport! These girls know how to shop! They arrived with 2 empty suitcases and leave with 4 crammed ones!

Things we've noticed
- They don't have teapots!
- They don't do duvets! They have comforters instead, which are basically duvets with the cover permanently stitched on. Not too keen on that one!
- They either eat super healthy or super bad. There doesn't seem to be any inbetween. Most people in Orlando do the latter.
- We have yet to meet a rude American. Even when they're trying to scam you - they're super polite!
- Thousands of tourists continue to fall for scams here despite it being well documented on google. These scam artists occupy prime retail space on the strip so must be doing well! I needed an $8 dollar part to secure my lens cover to my camera and leaving my camera at home, went and bought it from one of these outlets close to Disney. The guy tried to convince me to hand my camera in to have the mirrors cleaned for free in order to get a discount on a telescopic lens before 5pm! It was so obvious yet people must fall for this kind of thing to say he's there!
- The sense of humour is just not here in Orlando. Even the kids have noticed it now!
- It gets dark here between 8.30 and 9! No 11pm lark here!
- Mc Donalds pricing changes per area. A Happy Meal near disney costs $5 but near our house it's $2.20 plus a dollar supplement for milk or orange juice.
- You can't get a non-sugar coated cereal for kids. Even cheerios which are about the best of them are coated with sugar.
- Most children's food is highly coloured. Cerise pink cereals, neon juices, etc. and nearly all are cherry flavoured.
- We love the InSinkErator!!!! Save's so much space in the bin with food waste.
- The butter is all unsalted (yeuch!) and we haven't found dairygold yet : (

Friday 17th June - Disney's Animal Kingdom
What a day!!! We weren't sure what to expect from this park so went with an open mind. We had a blast! Stayed 8 hours 30 mins and left exhausted at sunset. It was Tom's idea of heaven. Dinosaurs and animals everywhere!!!
It's the staff who really make Disney what it is. We've had 2 instances the past few days that really brought that home. At security on the way into Magic Kingdom, Faye opened a full bottle of water and spilled it all over Tom who was in tears. The security guard legged it to a nearby cafe and came running back with a towel and some badges to cheer him up! The second happened in the Animal Kingdom. We were sitting waiting for the parade to start when Tom decided he was hungry. He had eaten his way through the snacks in the backpack so I gave him some dollars to buy some apples from the stall across the "street" (it was in full view. He went to cross but the guide sent him back as the parade was on it's way. He was in floods. So the guide went and got 2 boxes of sliced apples with caramel dips for them, courtesy of Mickey Mouse! Fantastic PR!
The day rounded off with The Lion King Musical. It's directed by the same Julie Taymor who did the Broadway show and was absolutely spectacular. We left the park exhausted and airport bound to collect Dad but his flight was delayed by 6 hours : ( so he didn't get home til 4am at which stage we were unconcious!
